Auto-subscribe users to email updates

Prev Next

Available in Changelog Pro & above plans

Using Beamer's auto-subscription, you can automatically enroll users to receive email notifications from Beamer. Auto-subscription is an optional feature that eliminates the need for your users to opt in to receive Beamer emails if they’re already subscribed to receive emails from your app. After setting up and confirming your custom sender domain in Beamer and configuring auto-subscription, your automatically subscribed users will receive emails from your domain rather than Beamer's.

To use auto-subscription, you must configure both of the following:

  1. Enable auto-subscription in Beamer settings. (See below.)

  2. Pass the user's email address via the user_email parameter in beamer_config . (If auto-subscription is enabled, they will be automatically added to the email notification "Subscribers" list. Learn more about sending user data in How to send user data.)

Once you've configured auto-subscription for your users in Beamer, existing and future users will be auto-enrolled in Beamer updates as they start to visit the page where beamer_config is embedded. However, if a user opts out of receiving emails, they will not be auto-subscribed. Users who have previously opted out and wish to receive emails again must either opt in via a link in a previous Beamer email, or you can contact our support team to resubscribe them.

Enable Auto-Subscription

Once enabled, existing and future users who opt in to receive emails in your app will automatically be subscribed to emails from Beamer (using your verified sender domain).

Prerequisite: Verify your custom sender domain

Refer to the How to set up your custom sender domain for more information.

  1. Select Analytics > Email subscriptions from the sidebar.

  2. Click Auto-subscribe users in the upper right.

A pop-up confirmation will appear, confirming that your users are now automatically subscribed. The button will change to indicate that users are auto-subscribed.

Note: Beamer domain & email address

Once auto-subscribe is enabled, the option to use the Beamer domain and email address will be unavailable.

Manually Pause Auto-Subscription

You can pause auto-subscription at any time.

  1. Click Users auto-subscribed in the upper right.

  2. Click Pause in the pop-up confirmation prompt.

The button will change to indicate that auto-subscription is paused.

Manually Unpause Auto-Subscription

  1. Click Auto-subscription paused in the upper right.

  2. Click Resume in the pop-up confirmation prompt.

The button will change to indicate that users are auto-subscribed.

Automatic Pause of the Auto-Subscription

If a custom sender domain is removed or the custom sender domain verification fails, auto-subscription will be paused automatically. You can re-enable auto-subscription at any time by verifying the custom sender domain and following the instructions above for unpausing the subscription.
